Hannah Dilworth may own Williamsburg shop Concrete + Water, but her heart belongs to Greenpoint, where she lives with her fiancé and their dog Henry.
Hannah’s shop is a beautiful, stylish sight to behold, with gorgeous, well-curated items, from the perfect summer bikini to the most current pair of sunnies.
A recent panel at the shop, sponsored by Made Real Vodka and moderated by its founder Nicole Williams, featured a fun and lively group of female North Brooklyn entrepreneurs. As would-be entrepreneurs sipped a spicy honey-vodka cocktail, they listened to Hannah, Victorian Deych, Kilee Hughes and Lenore Champagne Beirne discussing the confidence required to be your own boss in a hostile economic climate. Afterwards, we chatted with Hannah about the event, her shop, collaborating with her partner, and how she turned her passion into a lifestyle.
“This neighborhood is becoming a vinyl mecca,” says Robert Piskorski, owner of Dream Fishing Tackle (673 Manhattan Ave). His store, which opened 17 years ago, was known for selling fishing gear until a year and a half ago, when his daughter convinced him to start stocking antiques and quirky artifacts in a portion of the store, while still allocating much of the space for “hardcore saltwater and hardcore freshwater” fishermen’s supplies. Then about six months ago, Piskorski began carrying vintage vinyl alongside the fishing tackle and antiques. Perhaps this motley selection was brought about by his own personal disdain for big retailers like Walmart or “boring boutiques in Manhattan. They all look the same.” He feels that an optimal shopping experience brings “a sense of adventure and discovery.” Dream Fishing Tackle certainly promotes that ideology, and it’s unique to Greenpoint.

The great thing about Greenpoint is that there isn’t a shortage of vintage shops to hunt in. And, many of the owners are smart, sweet, and sassy. I can say the same thing for the store, Mind / Matter (165 Greenpoint Ave) is a vintage lover’s dream. More so, the owner, Elle Ditta, is charming and knowledgable.
I recently sat down with Elle to discuss her new store and why it’s a perfect sanctuary for all vintage enthusiasts. (Hint: oh-so-sweet clothes, beauty, and retro furniture). Continue reading →

We know Greenpoint is beautiful. It’s rough, polished, complicated, uneven, ugly, and pretty all the same. It’s not surprise that the magical boutique and brand, Gypsy Warrior, thought the same. The store for darklings took on Greenpoint and Williamsburg for it’s perfectly sweet, sassy, dark witch vibes. Continue reading →
