  1. Bring To Light: Nuit Blanche

    September 29, 2010 by Justine

This weekend is one for the art lovers. Starting on Friday is the Greenpoint Open Studios featuring a weekend full of art throughout the neighborhood. And then on Saturday night is the exciting Bring To Light Nuit Blanche festival. A Nuit Blanche is an all night arts festival of installations and performances celebrating the magic and luminance of light. Nuit Blanche events enliven cities all around the globe, but there has never been one in New York.

Projection art, interactive media, sound installation and performance, all dealing with the properties of light, will illuminate the industrial Greenpoint waterfront from sundown to midnight as part of New York’s first-ever Nuit Blanche festival. Bring to Light corresponds with other Nuit Blanches around the world as well as Greenpoint Open Studios weekend and will be a time for visitors to engage in a unique nighttime New York experience.

  3. Greenpoint Open Studios This Weekend!!

    by Joann

    Greenpoint Open Studios is HERE!

Beginning 7pm THIS FRIDAY, Greenpoint Open Studios will celebrate a thriving creative community found in our neighborhood throughout the entire weekend. Over 150 participating artists will be opening their studios to share their creative practice and engage in communal dialogue and collaboration and fun. Art shows in galleries such as Yes Gallery and Greenpoint Gallery will display the works participating GOS artists. Opening night at Greenpoint Gallery will feature live music by the likes of People’s Champs and Living Days. In addition, local businesses Brouwerij Lane and Dandelion Wine will host a dual art show titled Girls & Boys as well as an exhibition at Paulie Gee’s as presented by GOS and Ugly Art Room. We are very excited to also present an evening long series of performances presented by the literary theater group Boomslang, hosted by the Church of Messiah. Let us also remember that Saturday night is Nuit Blanche, an all night street art festival to take place on Noble Street.

And there’s still more! A slew of performances, exhibitions, happenings, and partying will take place in Greenpoint this weekend and who would want to miss it?

Go to GreenpointOpenStudios.org to download our map and guide. Check the events page for full details of every single event GOS is presenting. Check the artist profiles of those graciously opening their studios.

Our printed brochure will be available for you to pick up and browse through, along with complimentary GOS stamped pencils (we’re really excited about our pencils), at our hub locations starting FRIDAY: Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, Paulie Gee’s, Yes Gallery.

GOS would also like to thank our local businesses and organizations who have generously sponsored Greenpoint Open Studios and helping us make all the magic happen.

Please join us and help us spread the good word! See you this weekend!

  6. OPEN: House of Small Wonder

    by Justine

Way back in April, I mentioned the folks behind Anytime would be opening a cafe called House of Small Wonder. Well after a couple weeks of a soft opening they are finally in full effect. And from the looks of the interior shot like a Cracker Barrel (Let it be known I am NOT ashamed of loving Cracker Barrel as much as I do)!

House of Small Wonder has been softly open for a couple weeks and is serving up killer espresso drinks, croissants, sandwiches, sweets, cold-brewed iced coffee and fresh juice. Stop in and say “hello”!

Rumor has it the “crosissants are baked on site a few times a day” and there’s a garden space in the works.

    House of Small Wonder
    20 Skillman Ave
    b/t Meeker & Lorimer
    Open M-F 7-7, Sa Su 8-7

  7. Quickie: $500 Gets You a Glorified Outhouse

    by Justine

A reader tipped me off to this Gawker story this morning. Someone is actually renting out their shed in Greenpoint… as a studio.
