Stuck in the city this 4th of July? Fuck the fireworks that they’re not showing on our beloved East River and do the Fourth on Franklin instead. Facebook event here.
Greenpoint will be strutting its patriotic stuff this July 4th with the Fourth on Franklin Bar Crawl. It kicks off at 2pm with an hour of free (FREE!) cans of PBR to anyone wearing red, white and blue.
After that, each of the 5 participating bars will offer drink specials, giveaways and a couple of raffles. Plus, each bar will be decked out as a different national treasure. So come check out the boozy version of Mount Rushmore, Statue of Liberty and your other favorite landmarks.
The crawl culminates with a Most Patriotic Costume Competition at t.b.d. Brooklyn (224 Franklin St.) where budding Uncle Sam’s and Betsy Ross’ can compete for fun prizes.
Carmine’s II is serving up a week of classic cinema and classic cuisine under the stars starting tonight!
Williamsburg Pizza King’s Second Location To Host Film Festival in Outdoor Garden
You don’t have to be Italian to love this: regulars and new patrons alike can enjoy their favorite slices, salads and pasta dishes with a complimentary side of film every night at CINEMA AL FRESCO FROM TUESDAY, JUNE 22 THROUGH SUNDAY, JUNE 27, WITH LIVE ENTERTAINMENT AT 7:00PM, CURTAIN AT 8:30PM, AT CARMINE’S II’S OUTDOOR GARDEN, 436 UNION AVENUE, IN WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN.
The audience can order dinner or dessert from Carmine’s II’s full menu and cool down from the hot summer day in the garden with a live blues performance by Jimmy the Legend, followed by screenings of the following films:
Carmine’s II, Carmine Gangone’s second restaurant in Williamsburg, opened in 2010, continuing the tradition of fresh ingredients, carefully crafted pizza, and a menu that reminds of standard Italian dishes, but outdoes them. A storied Yankees fan, and a neighborhood institution, Gangone follows in his father Gaetano’s footsteps, building a Brooklyn empire of mozzarella, sauce and crust on an immigrant’s dream and a dedication to one’s craft. Both restaurants are family-run, and you can often see Carmine jetting from one to the other on his Vespa. Carmine’s, the original, still operates at 358 Graham Avenue. I didn’t have a chance to bog about this AS it was happening but I’m glad that reader Dave Scott sent me a few shots of this amazing public art project.
Future Phenomena, a large-scale, fabric sculpture, was created by Brooklyn artist Amanda Browder sided-by-side with local community volunteers and blanketed the façade of a Greenpoint, Brooklyn building this past weekend. Our own Joann wrote a piece including Amanda this past April.
Hey,
I was really excited to walk out my door this morning and see a giant building sized fabric sculpture on the corner of Eagle and Manhattan Ave. Having seen your write up on Amanda Browder’s work, it was easy to spot the piece as one of her own. Check out these photos and if you haven’t been over there yet, you should definitely swing by – its pretty rad.
Online indie music retail mogul Insound is having one of their famous warehouse sales this Thursday at the company’s headquarters right here in Greenpoint. Normally, in order to shop at Insound, you need to do so online and eagerly wait for your goodies to arrive in the mail. Only a couple times a year does Insound open up their offices to the public and offer deals so that you can walk home with those sought-after records, t-shirts, and silk-screened posters immediately. No waiting! Plus, they will be offering complimentary refreshments and promo goodies.
So what are you doing Thursday evening from 5-8 pm? Well you’re heading down to 61 Greenpoint Ave. (Greenpoint & Franklin) to spend some time with your fellow music nerds.
