  4. Greenpoint Library: Closed for the Summer

    May 28, 2010 by Justine

The Greenpoint branch of the Brooklyn Public Library will be closed beginning on Saturday June 5th and will not reopen until Tuesday September 7th in order to replace the roof.

    Schedule for Work

The last day of service at Greenpoint is Friday, June 4, 2010. Greenpoint will temporarily close to the public starting on Saturday, June 5; we plan to reopen on or before Tuesday, September 7 at 10:00.

    Scope of Work

The City’s Department of Design and Construction’s contractor will replace the deteriorated roof at Greenpoint with a new roof. As you may know, in the past BPL has been forced to temporarily close Greenpoint due to leaks and also cordon off sections of the interior space during heavy rains. In addition, during the closure the contractor will make minor repairs to the building’s façade, replace the dropped ceiling with news tiles (as the existing ceiling has been damaged by leaks) and upgrade the interior florescent lighting.

    Interim Service

Starting Tuesday, June 8, through Tuesday, August 31, BPL will provide interim service from a Bookmobile at the Greenpoint library each Tuesday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. During the closure, library staff will continue outreach to neighborhood schools and community organizations; programs currently offered to children, young adults, seniors and other patrons at Greenpoint Library will be offered at other libraries in the community.

Library customers can also use the following libraries:
    · Bushwick Library, 340 Bushwick Avenue, (718) 602-1348
    · Leonard Library, 81 Devoe Street; (718) 486-3365
    · Williamsburgh Library, 240 Division Avenue; (718) 302-3485

  5. Quickie: Inside Bea’s

    by Justine

    The (G)REENWICH (V)ILLAGE (D)AILY (P)HOTO blog got a rare sneak peek inside Bea’s Luncheonette.

Wow, does this bring back memories. I sat at that counter a thousand times as a kid ordering hamburgers or getting an icy. It looks exactly the same…

  6. What’s New at Greenpointers

    by Justine

Greenpointers is growing! This July, Greenpointers will be 3 – can you believe it?

Over the last three years I’ve changed the look of the blog, added some friends and got a chance to see so many new spots open in the neighborhood it kinda makes my head spin. But there is still so much going on that I can’t possibly see or do it all so I’m happy to have added even more friends to the Greenpointers crew.

Kea has been with me the longest joining just before Greenpointers turned one. Then came Joann in March of 2009, the creator of Greenpoint Food Market among so many other events and things I can’t hardly keep up with her. Along the way I’ve had contributors like MatchGirl from Unemployed Brooklyn and Liza from food.curated among others. Recently to come on board is Jason Anello of Forking Tasty and Christina from I Want To Go There.

I was hoping to find some bloggers interested in hitting the shopping beat and I got lucky and found two! Emily who has already posted about a giant tag sale this weekend and soon to start Tom Cowell who runs Etsy vintage clothing shop Dusty Rose Vintage with his wife from their Greenpoint home.

Also coming on board is frequent contributor to the Greenpoint Flickr Group, photographer Matthew Glasson who I’ve been a fan of for some time.

In addition to all the new talent here, I’ve started adding local business ads to the site like Alter and Joann’s Greenpoint Food Market. I am not into the Google ads and instead would prefer to keep everything totally all about the hood. I support the GBA – Greenpoint Business Association and all local joints. If your business is interested check out the post here.

  7. Branding Greenpoint

    by Justine

The Greenpoint Business Association is on a roll right now and their next step is to create a destination logo and slogan. This is a HUGE opportunity for Greenpoint and for talented designers out there. It would be wonderful to have an artist who lives and loves this neighborhood to put their passion into this project.

The Greenpoint Business Association (GBA) is seeking proposals from local “North Brooklyn” based artists, graphic designers and marketing experts to create a destination logo and slogan for the “village” of Greenpoint.

This is a long-term initiative – a revitalization of a thirty year tradition of business and community involvement! We are seeking to create a “destination” brand for Greenpoint that will support the business community, giving us a stronger voice to influence the economic recovery of our “village.”

All the deatils can be found here.
