I got an email from a reader who’d like to volunteer in the neighborhood on Christmas Day, does anyone know where her generosity might be needed?
So its a bit last minute, but I was wondering if you know of any places in the neighborhood that need a hand on Christmas day. This will be the first year I am staying in the city alone and would like to do something productive instead of just sitting around. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks…and happy holidays.

Ah, I got an email from a reader this morning asking “What happened to the Blog Buzz feature?”. Well, Twitter happened.
Blog Buzz features took FOREVER for me to put together, gathering links and stuff from allover the blogosphere relating to Greenpoint. But then Twitter came along and it made it simple to just shoot off a quick link to the internet masses. So if you haven’t joined Twitter or haven’t started following Greenpointers on Twitter, get with the program.
The Twitter account automatically feeds the latest blog posts from here but I also retweet interesting links and info from other locals, share things I come across and shoot the shit about reality tv with my Twitter bff effedinparkslope of the blog Fucked in Park Slope – holla!

Friday night Red Star is hosting its first annual Holiday Sweater Party benefiting the Greenpoint Soup Kitchen. If you’ve noticed almost all the bar events around town have been helping out the Greenpoint Soup Kitchen which is a really great thing! By now they should be serving lobster bisque. Facebook event here.
A portion of the proceeds from the event, including all takings from the $2 sweater shots, $3 from every Cazadores shot or drink ordered, and the suggested $10 door donation will be donated to help feed the homeless this holiday season. The Red Star staff will also be joining the giving spirit by donating 40% of their tips.
DJ Mario will be kicking tunes from 10pm-4am. And since its worldwide debut at the Greenpoint Beer Festival, Red Star permanently houses the newest offering from the Brooklyn Brewery, the Brooklyn Backbreaker Reserve. ‘Tis the season to give back so come down, enjoy the holiday spirit with your friends and don’t forget to wear your loudest and most obnoxious holiday sweater. Red Star will be awarding a $100 gift certificate for the most “festive” Holiday Sweater.
Also on Saturday for your shopping pleasure is the Vintage Clothes & More sale going on at t.b.d. that I mentioned last week. Get your drink and shop on in one afternoon!
And lastly, on Saturday evening The Habitat is having a Winter Beer Tasting. Facebook event here.
Give yourself the gift of beer!! Sample some great seasonal brews next Saturday, December 19th beginning at 7pm.
$13 gets you 8oz samples of: Stoudt’s Winter Ale (Robust Porter) Heavy Seas Winter Storm (Imperial ESB) Rogue Mogul Madness (American Strong Ale) St. Bernardus Christmas Ale (Belgian Strong Ale)

File this one under slightly random but very cool. There’s a vintage clothing, accessories & home sale happening next Saturday December 19th from Noon-6pm at t.b.d. It seems a little weird to have a shopping event at a bar, but then why am I complaining? Cocktails and vintage shopping are two of my favorite pastimes. Together at last.
