The job market sucks. My friends are getting laid off left and right. Wouldn’t it be great if you could walk to work? A reader emailed me this craigslist posting suggesting I blog about it and it got me thinking that if I can help even one Greenpointer get a job (or a Greenpoint business find an employee) then it’s all good in the hood. So when I come across any openings around the neighborhood, I’ll be sure to post them and feel free to email me any job openings you know of or even if your a local looking for a job, hit me up and maybe I can help a few folks out.

New Movie Theater?

Just kidding. But I do have some questions about this space. This little building is on Norman between Lorimer and Manhattan. It used to be the world’s smallest garage. One time I saw a Jeep pull into it, and I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Now it looks like its going to be two little shops maybe? Its hard to tell from this picture, but each unit has a bay window. Its really, a very cute set up. If I could wish on these two new spaces, I would wish for a Curves Gym and another Dunkin Donuts. But I would also be happy with a Papa John’s and a mini Rite Aid.

Today is a day of mourning. The G Train had a mock funeral this morning at Court Square, though the line has been pretty much on life support in Queens for a decade anyway. Anyone get a chance to attend this farce? – Second Avenue Sagas

Top shows Fringe and Life On Mars may be leaving NYC due to the possible loss of tax incentives. These shows film often right here in Greenpoint and although they can sometimes be a pain in the ass, there are some local establishments that are benefiting. Whenever they film inside one of our bars or homes, somebody’s getting paid for that. And come on, ain’t it cool to see those old cars parked on the block? – Filming in Brooklyn & The Urbanite

Williamsburg Fashion Weekend is coming around again this Friday and Saturday at Grasslands Gallery.

Those Desk Set-ters are having a dance party this Thursday night at The Diamond called “Good Librations”. Really, don’t you just love how witty those librarians are? RSVP on Facebook. Hex Ed Journal

More complaints about the chicken slaughterhouse. Is it gross? Sure. Is it uncool to wake up to screeching chickens off to meet their maker? Definitely. But does it also make Greenpoint, Greenpoint? Absolutely. Mr Chen sums it up with one sentence – “You can’t expect you come in and we move out.” Damn skippy! – The City

Another Walter Lynn Mosley Greenpoint original painting is up for grabs on eBay. This one shows the onion church in a great wintery scene. – eBay

Shoot Out on Franklin

This weekend was a supersized sister fun weekend so I was pretty preoccupied until Saturday morning when JoJo and I left to run to the post office and I spied a DT outside of the Production Lounge in addition to a marked cop car. That usually indicates something happened.

About noon me and the girls went to Alter and Tommy gave me the lowdown on the drama. He said there was a wild shooting outside of Production Lounge sometime around 3am-ish. The cops were there until early Saturday morning, complete with crime scene tape and searching for shell casings. Something like 20 shots were fired and he mentioned a grand old Cadillac had a shot-out tire. And to top it off, rumor has it a girl was shot in the derriere outside of River Barrel in the middle of this melee.

So then I checked my email and reader Peter Bitenc and his friend Hans sent me this with the accompanying photos:

Here’s a tip per my friend Hans:

Here are some pics of last night’s destruction. There was a shoot-out last night at 3:30 am, practically right outside my window, in the intersections of Kent st and Franklin Av. There were some “out of the neighborhood-ers” last night at the Production Lounge, a terribly cheesy establishment on Franklin.

Thanks to Tommy from Alter and the two readers for alerting me to the craziness.

In addition to the protesting comment on Yelp, just this afternoon I heard a few people gathering on Franklin Street discussing how they can get this place shut down for good. Normally, I’d be one to say this isn’t the establishment’s fault – because usually that’s correct – but in this instance, Production Lounge is just a tad on the obnoxious side. I come home sometimes during the week from my sisters apartment and I can hear the music inside PL from a block away. Yet, I never see anyone actually in the place. It really surprised me to hear this happened there and not at Club Exit.

I haven’t done any research of heard of what crowd was there when this happened. Nor could I even speculate as to what sort of crowd hangs out there… Any more insight, photos or info, feel free to comment or email me.
