Club Exit II – 4am Gunshots?

Well I woke up this morning to find the following 5am comment on the last post about Club Exit:

just gotten woken up by these assholes..
ghetto people suck.

Then the following email just a few minutes ago:

Hi fellow “Greenpointer”-

I’m wondering if you or any of your readers heard the screaming and gunshots (?) out at Club Exit (Greenpoint Ave. btwn. Manhattan and McGinnis) last night at 4:00. We’re next door and the yelling was so loud it woke us up and I called 911 after hearing what sounded like 5 gunshots. When I looked out the window, there was a gigantic party bus and tons of people in the street. The Club Exit crowd has always been a nuisance (I’ve witnessed many fights and tussles with police, and one anonymous neighbor of mine has started a crusade against them, asking everyone to file noise complaints against them so they’ll be fined), but it’s never been as bad as it was last night. If indeed the noises were gunshots, I’d be a little worried for our mostly-peaceful neighborhood.

That said, this morning, there was no sign of anything outside and I haven’t seen the story picked up by any news outlet.

Great blog! Thanks for your help.

When it comes to Club Exit I go right to my sister who lives around the corner, here’s her account of last night:

I drove to work this morning.

There was indeed screaming and the same shit that happens almost every Thursday, then at 4am the Club Exit people were *losing it* outside.

Anyway, driving down Greenpoint Avenue toward McGuinness Blvd, right after Leonard on the right hand side, the police had the front sidewalks of three row houses yellow taped off. Right across from Exit. Not a coincidence, I’m sure.

Who knows if one actually has to do with the other, but it would be a pretty big coincidence. Anyone else got any info to share?

McCarren Park Pool 2008: Wilco & Updated Site

Just checked out the McCarren Park Pool site and the calendar is updated for 2008 showing the shows for M.I.A., Death Cab for Cutie and Ween.

But from the Via Chicago forums I found out Wilco is playing on August 13th. I heard last years show at Warsaw was a big hit. And with that possible Breeders show there’s nothing that’s an absolutely *must see* for me at The Pool yet, but we’re definitely getting warmer…

Free Recycling at Go Green!

Some more news on this weekends McCarren Park Go Green! Greenpoint! event. They’re having an entire free recycling program for just about anything you can think of. Paper, electronics, books and clothing. Just in time for Spring Cleaning you can get that shit out of your house and actually feel good about it not just going into the garbage. Maybe someone else will be able to use it or at least it won’t find it’s way into the landfills.

McCarren Park Pool 2008: More Shows

I’ve been trying to keep a keen eye open for McCarren Pool concert dates and I’ve come across this via Impose Magazine. These seem to be for the Pool Parties, which I definitely do not attend due to the overwhelming hipster attendance and me never knowing who the fuck the people are who are playing.

But, I’m basically writing this post because of the footnote mention: “Apparently The Breeders may make an appearance in July, though no date’s set.” Now The Breeders I can get down with. They just came out with a new album but if I really just want to hear Do You Love Me Now live.

And there’s always the possibility of some Pixies songs…

Blog Buzz: Wooden Phone Booth Habitats

Here’s another Blog Buzz post. More and more Greenpoint gossip about town to keep up with.

The Fading Ad Blog has a number of cool Greenpoint pics but check out Greenpoint Mufflers & Pipes – Manhattan Avenue 2003 and maybe you can help decipher the old writing on the wall. – Fading Ad Blog by Frank H. Jump

When Two Blogs Unite they apparently do an old school tour of The Point. Bonus points for including Irene’s Bar. Though any Pointer worth his salt knows that’s not the only old time wooden phone booth in the neighborhood. Remember the one at Bee’s? Any others anyone can think of? – Urbanite

Regina Spektor is coming to town this Saturday to celebrate Record Store Day. – Eventful

Bitch to the NYC Transit President Howard Roberts about the G Train tomorrow night at the NYC TRANSIT RIDERS COUNCIL 2008 PRESIDENT’S FORUM ON SUBWAYS. – Save The G

The Habitat finally opened this past weekend. Word has it there are 12 New York microbrews are on tap. – Gothamist

On Sunday April 27th, there’s the Artwalking: Bedford Avenue exhibition, where thirty stores on Bedford Avenue are going to show art installations in their store windows. According to Matthew Silver, the person in charge has been gathering a ton of street performers to make the streets very colorful. If you’re interested in participating check out the Craigslist ad here. – The Bedford Circle of Fools

Dandelion Wine is opening up right outside my window and barring any nonsense from the State Liquor Authority (remember when Brooklyn Label was supposed to have theirs in time for Christmas? See how well that worked out.) should be open by May. Not a big wine connoisseur myself but I can always appreciate more alcohol in the hood.

And of course don’t forget about Darts coming to Greenpoint – sign up, already! – Greenpointers

Greenpoint-Williamsburg Dart League Update

*** PLEASE SEE UPDATE HERE ***

So you know I’ve been working on trying to get a dart league started in the nabe for some time and I’ve been lucky to find people who are working on putting it together. This is the last chance for bars to get involved before we start. Next week there will be a meeting at Connie O’s bar for bar managers/owners interested in setting up teams. For the details see my last post for the flyer. If you’re a bar and want to sponsor a dart team – let me know NOW!

If you’re an individual looking to be on a team when we start – email me and I will let you know what bars are looking for players as soon as I know. I’ll also post a list of bars that are involved and all the details as soon as everything is in place.

Now let’s poke an eye out!
